Another week, another bad call that costs San Antonio FC points. The Texas club will have to rebound mentally as they again go on the road, this time to Arizona United SC. The first ever matchup between the two clubs is the first of three scheduled for the rest of the 2016 regular season. Arizona will visit Toyota Field on Wednesday.
Arizona is getting hot at just the right time. With one of their leading scorers suspended for this first match, San Antonio FC must capitalize. With their eyes locked on making playoffs, anything short of a win will likely be a disappointment to the club.
Rafa Castillo looks to attack
Like last week, Michael Reed will miss the action Saturday night with a lower body injury. Joining him on the injury report will be defender Milton Palacios. Palacios was carted off the field and to the hospital last Saturday in Sacramento. In his place we’ll likely see Max Gunderson. The fullback has seen some minutes with SAFC this season, but with Palacios unavailable this will be his biggest test so far.
Forward Cesar Elizondo continues to prove his value as a mid-season signing
Match Details: Game Twenty One. Peoria, AZ. Saturday 8/13/2016. Kickoff 9:30PM CDT
How To Watch: SanAntonioFC.com , USL Match Center
Keys for SAFC: Last week, SAFC had success feeding Cesar Elizondo. While he “only” scored one goal, there were a few that could have easily taken a San Antonio bounce and added to his tally. If they’re able to be as proficient on offense as they have been for the last few weeks, the defense should hold.
Player To Watch: Assuming he starts in place of Palacios, Max Gunderson could be the key to keeping SAFC’s defense upright. The former Austin Aztex defender has plenty of experience, but will have to show that he’s ready to be the next man up in place of Palacios.
Pitch Black Projected Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Ford(c); Gunderson, McCarthy, Bradnock-Brennan, Cochrane; Salazar, Thuriere; Alvarez, Castillo, Johnson; Elizondo
Score Prediction: Arizona United SC 1-2 San Antonio FC
