San Antonio FC (4-0-1) continues their Cascadia 2 road trip with a Tuesday night battle against Seattle Sounders 2 (2-3-0).
The Texas club remains undefeated in their sophomore campaign, but with three matches in seven days the club will have to be creative with its roster or risk deploying exhausted players against S2 and T2 sides who have not had ideal starts to their USL seasons. SAFC’s previous match in Vancouver saw Devin Vega, Aly Hassan, and Shawn Chin get their first starts of 2017 and Diego Restrepo get his first meaningful action with the club.
Restrepo was subbed on against Vancouver when starting goalkeeper Matt Cardone was forced off with what appeared to be a lower body injury. With such a short turn around time between matches, it’s likely Restrepo will start in Seattle if there is even the slightest concern of injury with Cardone. While the cast might be slightly different, SAFC fans have seen this show before. Thankfully, much like 2016, SA has capable goalkeepers waiting for their chance to defend the fort.
Game Six. Tukwila,WA. Tuesday 4/25/2017. Kickoff 9:30 CDT
How to Watch: SanAntonioFC.com, USL Match Center
Keys for SAFC: I don’t want to be a broken record about how important SAFC’s defensive midfielders are (because they are) so I’ll shift the focus forward a bit. SA has to find a way to score that doesn’t involve Billy Forbes. Forbes is in the early discussion for MVP, but when he is marked chances need to be created from the attacking midfielder (usually Rafa), the right winger (usually Tyrpak), or pretty much anybody else on the pitch.
Player to Watch: If Cardone can’t go or is being held out to recover properly, Restrepo has to be able to pick up where The Beard and the rest of the defense left off.
