After an extraordinary start to the 2017 season, San Antonio FC midfielder Billy Forbes has been named USL Player of the Month for March/April the league announced Thursday.
To date, Forbes has tallied a league-best 6 goals for San Antonio FC and has already passed the previous single-season scoring title for the Texas club. Forbes has also racked up three assists in his 633 minutes played, tied with Cesar Elizondo to lead the club. San Antonio FC is undefeated through 8 matches, racking up 7 wins and a draw, and leads the Western Conference.
Player of the Month was awarded based on three factors. The largest percentage (34%) was made of USL Technical Committee followed by National Media vote (33%) and online fan voting (33%). Marcel Schäfer of the Tampa Bay Rowdies won the fan vote with 47% of the tally. Forbes fell to third with 21%. The other three nominees were Romario Williams (Charleston Battery), Vincent Bezencourt (NYRB II), and Angelo Cavalluzzo (Toronto FC II).
Forbes will make his case for the next USL Player of the Month title Saturday at home when San Antonio FC face Seattle Sounders 2. San Antonio came away with an exciting 3-2 victory when the two clubs met earlier in the 2017 season.
