San Antonio FC will sign forward / attacking midfielder Mike Seth, a source tells Pitch Black.

Seth and two other players were released from Phoenix Rising FC on Thursday afternoon after the Arizona club added multiple new players to their roster. Before joining Phoenix, Seth played the 2015 and 2016 USL seasons with Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC where he was the Colorado club’s leading scorer in 2016 with 8 goals in 28 appearances. Listed as 6’1” / 174lbs, the 29 year old attacking-minded player has a strong physical presence and a quick first touch.

Seth’s release from Phoenix likely has more to do with the club’s roster than his individual performance. Didier Drogba’s arrival added another attacking player to a club full of players looking to dominate the final third, forcing Seth to compete with six other forwards including Drogba, Omar Bravo, Luke Rooney, and former SAFC man Jason Johnson. Seth has 4 USL appearances in 2017, tallying 4 shots in 154 minutes.

How he will fit in SAFC’s plans remains to be seen, but the versatile player has found success as a striker, central midfielder, and winger. With Billy Forbes and Kris Tyrpak finding their rhythm on the wings in their first season back in Texas, Seth is unlikely to find consistent minutes as a winger. SAFC forwards Cesar Elizondo and AJ Ajeakwa have scored a combined 7 goals this season. While the most recent goal came July 1st in Sacramento, the other 6 came in April. Tall, physical forwards have found success in head coach Darren Powell’s system in the past and Seth stands to continue that trend.

Seth is not expected to be the last addition to the SAFC roster as the club enters the final third of the regular season.
