After spending the vast majority of August and September on the road, San Antonio FC returns home Saturday with more on their mind than the upcoming South Texas Derby. The Spurs Sports and Entertainment owned soccer club is set to donate all ticket revenue from Saturday’s match to ongoing hurricane relief efforts, per an email sent to Season Ticket Members obtained by Pitch Black.Club officials confirmed that the donation will go to Rebuild Texas Fund, an organization that helps to fund recovery and rebuilding efforts in Texas. From the Rebuild Texas Fund website, “Every penny donated goes to relief, recovery, and rebuild efforts. Administrative costs and people costs are covered by the OneStar Foundation and by the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation. PayPal has also generously agreed to waive processing fees for donations to the Rebuild Texas Fund.”
With a mild weather forecast and an in-state rival coming to Toyota Field, Saturday’s match has the potential to be a sellout. The fact that a second division soccer club is able to donate the profits from one of their biggest matches of the regular season speaks to the health of the club, and their investment in their home state.
