The list of players confirmed to be on the 2018 San Antonio FC roster has risen to three with the return of forward Ever Guzman. Guzman joins fellow forward Cesar Elizondo and goalkeeper Diego Restrepo, all three of which saw significant minutes with the Alamo City club in 2017.

Ever Guzman and Cesar Elizondo were fixtures in a fiery San Antonio FC attack that found its touch as the regular season came to a close. Joining mid-season, Guzman appeared in 11 matches in 2017 scoring 5 goals for the club. Guzman closed the regular season by scoring in SAFC’s final three matches leading up to the playoffs. The duo scored all three goals that San Antonio FC banked in the 2017 playoffs.

Cesar Elizondo returned for the 2017 season after joining mid-2016. The former San Antonio Scorpions forward ran circles around the league in the beginning of the season when reunited with fellow former Scorpion Billy Forbes. While Forbes took home the Player of the Month award, Elizondo was a key part of many goals and attacking runs. Elizondo finished the season with 6 goals, bringing him tied for 2nd-most on the squad for the year.

Guzman and Elizondo are 29 and 28 years old respectively, likely making them among the more veteran players for the 2018 roster. The experience they, along with 29 year old Diego Restrepo, will bring to the 2018 roster could prove to be vital not only to the success of the upcoming season, but also to the passing along of the budding club culture to the younger players that tend to fill out much of the past SAFC rosters.

In its third season, San Antonio FC is hardly the new kid on the block within the ever-expanding USL. Bringing back players who are invested in San Antonio and Texas could be a recipe for success for the Spurs Sports and Entertainment club. We’ll keep an eye out for more additions to the roster, as well as launch our updated Roster Tracker in the next few days.

  1. Bringing Guzman back warms my heart. Personally I think he was our best CF by a wide margin.
