San Antonio FC continues their road trip Friday night as the club looks to try their luck in Sin City facing expansion side Las Vegas Lights FC. The matchup marks the first time the two clubs have faced each other.

The rollercoaster ride of a week for SAFC nation started Sunday as the club earned a point on the road in Fresno. The 0-0 draw was the first time Fresno had been held scoreless in 2018, and the performance earned goalkeeper Diego Restrepo USL Team of the Week honors.

Coming off the high of a great performance, SAFC fans found themselves in a freefall Thursday afternoon when it was announced winger Kris Tyrpak had departed for NPSL side The Miami FC 2. The move was announced as the club and player mutually agreeing to part ways, and reunites the Austin native with former Austin Aztex head coach Paul Dalglish.

With Tyrpak gone, a handfull of players stand to make their case to become a full time starter. Connor Presley is off to an unexpectedly strong start to the season, while Cesar Elizondo and Omar Gordon are both looking to consistently break through to the starting XI after slow starts to the season. Jose Escalante is expected to be a consistent starter on the opposite wing. Alex Bruce and Sonny Guadarrama could also spend time on the outside of the formation, though it would be less likely to see them move away from their centralized roles.

Vegas will be a tough matchup for SAFC. While they only have four matches on record, the Nevada club is unbeaten throughout. Former SAFC midfielder Carlos Alvarez features in a lineup that has yet to record a clean sheet in their short existence. SAFC has only scored one goal this April.

The Vegas matchup could provide a perfect springboard into a strong May, or continue the frustrations of team and fans alike of the ball not finding the back of the net often enough this season.
