The last time San Antonio FC and Sacramento Republic FC met was for both clubs’ season opener. San Antonio fell 2-1 on the road in that match.
Ryan Roushandel was the squad’s central attacking midfielder in a 4-4-1-1 formation. Greg Cochrane played injured before subbing out in the 83rd minute. Connor Presley showed he was ready for minutes, helping feed Mikey Lopez’s first goal for the club four minutes after Presley was subbed on. Kris Tyrpak was still in the black and red.
All of this to say, a lot has changed in three months.
San Antonio is likely to come out in a much different formation, likely either a 3-4-3 or 4-1-4-1, with a significant number of different players in the starting XI. The Alamo City will be without defender Darnell King due to a one-match yellow card accumulation suspension, but are expected to have newest midfielder Charlie Ward ready to begin his time with the club.
Sacramento sits third in the USL Western Conference, finding success both at home and on the road. Usual suspects Cam Iwasa, Jaime Villarreal, and Villyan Bijev will likely make things tough for SAFC, but with SA getting the best of another top-of-the-table squad in their last USL match, there’s no reason to expect this match to be anything but competitive.
