Four wins in a row.

San Antonio FC has the potential to tie the club’s all-time best win streak as they start their Western road trip in Seattle. But with a midweek match in Portland on deck, will we see SAFC deploy their strongest squad to face S2? Personally, I doubt it.

This season, Seattle has topped Portland (2-1), RGV (3-2), OKC (2-1), and most recently Las Vegas (3-0). All four of their wins have been at home, and have kept them one point above last-place Tulsa.

While Seattle can surprise teams at home, a rotated SAFC squad should be able to defeat S2. For San Antonio to make a serious run in the playoffs, the club will need a healthy spine in their formation. McCarthy, Hedrick, and Guzman have all dealt with knocks this year, and with the high-involvement of Charlie Ward, Mikey Lopez, and Ethan Bryant, those players will need their breaks too.

With Portland being the tougher challenge on-paper, it makes sense for SAFC to give some players who haven’t had as many minutes a run-out on Saturday and save the rest of the squad some miles.

SAFC Quotes from this week:

“We need to stay together and keep working as a team,” SAFC defender Darnell King said. “We want to make sure we stick to what we’ve been working on throughout the week and that everyone does their job properly. We all want to be on the same page because our upcoming games are very important, and we want to get these wins on the road.”

“We have a very good squad and we’re almost back to full health, so we can rely on a rotation if needed,” Powell said. “The players are hungry and ready, and we will field the strongest squad we have available.”
